The Journey begins...
My name is Lora Aycock Jenkins, 8th grade science teacher at Tyner Middle Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Together with my partners, 6th grade math teacher Lonna Henriquez and her husband and our videographer Gerald Linderman, we will be documenting our 3 week expedition across Costa Rica. Our Journey begins on June 25th and will end on July 16th of 2012. We hope you will follow our posts and make the journey with us. We have a dream to show students how math and science are interwoven in the quest to protect earth's biodiversity. Our goal is to instill in our students a strong sense of stewardship for the incredibly diverse plant and animal populations we have in our own Tennessee River Gorge and watershed area. We will be conducting research through the rainforest restoration and relocation project and working with scientists at the OSA Biodiversity Research Center as they record biometric data on the returning sea turtles.
